“One of the most outstanding and challenging new bits of music I’ve heard this year comes from Makeunder…This is thoughtfully crafted music with a good soul at its heart.” – Bob Boilen – NPR Music
“Without a doubt one of the most impressive, immersive records to emerge this year, the output couples dense instrumentation with Dirty Projector-esque tight harmonisation to create a beautiful and absorbing sound. It’s a record that commands multiple listens and rightly deserves every second poured in.” – The Line of Best Fit
“Dream-like compositions, there’s a slightly surreal air to Makeunder’s music, a uniquely visual property that arrives laced in superlative colour.” – Clash Music
The music of the Oakland-based art-pop group Makeunder, the brainchild of musician Hamilton Ulmer, is undeniably visually evocative.
In further sharing the story of Great Headless Blank, Makeunder’s Hamilton Ulmer has collaborated with a number of artists to bring the visually evocative EP to life. There’s an Illustrated Listening Guide (SF Weekly), a remix from Nate Brenner of tUnE-yArDs (Clash Music) and, most successfully, a beautifully animated music video for the title track hand painted by Carine Khalife.
The unveiling of the “Great Headless Blank” video kicks off a pre-release for the EP, available for the first time on vinyl, out October 14th, 2016. Great Headless Blank also serves as the debut offering from the newly launched Good Eye Records.
